Persistence

Camping, Ants & Tortilla Chips No, I don’t camp in the winter anymore. I’m a fair weather camper (although it seems to rain every time). My love of camping has facilitated a long-standing battle with ants. Crawling all over the food. Marching in a line from the sand to my tent. Ruining jars of honey if left unattended for even a minute. So… I was making lunch by the fire one day (last spring), when I noticed a tortilla chip dance across the ground. Since I had never seen a tortilla chip dance, I crouched down to investigate. Evidently, an especially persistent ant had found it under my foldout chair. He was toting his enormous treasure back to wherever the ants in live. I was mesmerized. And quite impressed. Ants are amazing creatures. They can easily carry things more than 50 times their body mass and will patiently travel several miles to bring a prize home to the colony. Several miles, can you imagine? Now, I don’t necessarily want them running amok on my campsite picnic, that

Cracks in Your Foundation?!

Last night we had one of our weekly coaching calls for the PeaceWalker Evolution Course. What a great call! Rob and Jenn, a couple of the Level II - Momentum folks (people who graduated from Evolution last year and came back for the second Level.), were tasked to run the meeting as part of their training. I must say, they did a stand up job! The topic of discussion was building an Unshakable Foundation. WTH is that!? It’s basically the way you live. Your habits. What you do in your day to day life. How do you train your… Body  - Your physical health Mind  - What you’re filling your head with Mouth  - How you’re communicating Heart  - How you foster your relationships Why?! Without a solid foundation it’s difficult to remain balanced. When you are not balanced, it more difficult to stay calm, cool, and collected, (especially) under pressure. As I often say,  “You can’t hide crazy.” (It eventually comes out!) Regardless… You don’t have to be in the PeaceWalker Evolution course to look

The Answer is Right There…

It was cool watching the “Aha Moments” on people’s faces when they really get something. We’re seeing it in our classes, seminars and in the PeaceWalker Evolution Course! I know you experience this too… You’re working with someone who is new at something that you’re good at. You see them struggling with the same things that you excel at… But then there’s a shift… They have an epiphany, they see how one of those mundane, simple, basic principles connect to solving one of their bigger problems. You see the light go on. The look on their face is unmistakable as they have a moment of success. Simple. No? Learning how to protect yourself and deal with conflict is a lot like that. The simple stuff IS the advanced stuff. The simple stuff IS the effective stuff. Sometimes in our minds desire to learn and consume information, it begins make things overly complicated. Now, don’t get me wrong there are a lot of complicated things out there in the world… However protecting yourself and dealing w

It’s Easy to Hate What We Fear

Stormy day in more ways than one… I got a call from one of the guys going though the PeaceWalker Evolution / Momentum Program. He had somethings on his mind and heart. Deep, heavy, important things that many of us are struggling with right now. Things that we’ve been trying to figure out since the dawn of time… Specifically in this case, it concerns the war in Israel and Gaza… and the division it’s causing all over the world and namely here in the US. His dilemma (which I’m sure ALL of us can relate to) is how do you deal with people who not only have views that are opposed to yours, but views that are hateful and so emotionally charged that they can’t be reasoned with. And… To make matters worse, what do you do when you find yourself getting angry yourself and wanting to lash out against them. What do you do with all of that? I Get It! It’s easier to be the wise tranquil sage, alone on top of the mountain, rather than the PeaceWalker getting your hands dirty, down here in the trench
